The Knife Skills Initiative: A Creative Approach to Recruitment
In 2022, facing a post-pandemic labor shortage, I developed a dual-purpose 'Lunch & Learn' class to solve two problems at once: technical skill gaps and staffing. By opening our professional knife skills training to the public, we created a community-focused recruitment funnel. I designed the curriculum, authored the instructional materials, and collaborated with our Sous Chefs to lead the sessions. The result was a tangible ROI—four new hires, two of whom remain key members of the team four years later.
